On April 20, 2009, the Anaconda American Legion Post 21 Color Guard lent its support in the annual "Child Of The Week" program held at Kennedy Common. The parade was a rousing success with bystanders lining the streets. Led by an Anaconda Police vehicle, five Head Start students replete with banner kicked off the procession. The rest of the parade consisted of; The Anaconda American Legion Post 21 Color Guard, the Anaconda High School Drum Line, followed by the rest of the Head Start students and staff and family members and completed by two Anaconda Fire Department vehicles. The parade kicked off at 11 a.m. from the Head Start facility and ended at Kennedy Common with Legionnaire John Pellegrini lowering and raising the American flag while the crowd sang "It's A Grand Old Flag", an Anaconda tradition.
