Department Membership Facts
Since 1999 the American Legion in Montana has had a steady growth in membership topping out in 2008 at 13,211 members, last year we had only a 100 member decrease. Currently this year we are running approx 306 ahead of last year for the Department.
As the following table show, there is no truth to the myth about our aging membership.

Since its formation in 1919, The American Legion of Montana has been the largest Veteran's organization in the state. In addition,
- Only 21 of our 133 Posts have canteens (bars)
- The Department has 133 Posts in 124 communities
- The Department gave a total of $26,000 in grants to veterans and their families
- Department members gave over 40,000 volunteer hours to Montana communities
- Members participated in 1145 veterans funerals
